In Memory of Dr. Vandana Das: Dream Clinic Inaugurated Today with Community Support

Amid the heart-wrenching memories of her daughter Dr. Vandana Das, her dream clinic will be dedicated to the community today. The prayer hall in the clinic was inaugurated by Union Minister Suresh Gopi. Vandana’s friends also attended the ceremony. “She always wished to start the clinic while she was alive,” her mother said, with tears in her eyes. “I never thought I would have to start this clinic in her memory.” Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will inaugurate the hospital this afternoon. A medical camp has also been organized in connection with the clinic’s opening. With the commencement of the clinic’s operations, there will be the regular service of two doctors. Vandana’s friends have assured that they will also provide services at the clinic.

“This event is about fulfilling my daughter’s wish. Suresh Gopi sir had earlier agreed to come here in person. Even though he had a tight schedule and had to be in Delhi today, he came because of his attachment to our daughter and his love for us. There will be a medical camp tomorrow, and we will have the services of her classmates and doctors from the medical college,” Vandana’s father, Mohandas, said.

Vandana’s dream of providing affordable medical assistance to ordinary people is becoming a reality. The hospital is housed in a two-story building covering 2,000 square feet. Vandana’s mother, Vasanthakumari, has renovated their family home for the hospital. Vandana, who was a house surgery student, was killed in an attack by Sandeep, a resident of Kudavattoor, when police arrived for a medical examination at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital in May 2023. These parents are still waiting for Sandeep to receive the maximum punishment.
