Agartala: Two persons were arrested with 80,000 Yaba tablets during a search at the Churaibari check post on the Assam-Tripura border. Tinku Malakar and Sujit Deb, natives of Tripura’s Kumarghat, were arrested in the incident.
Drugs were found hidden in secret compartments when the lorry was stopped and searched. The inspection took place while crossing into Tripura from Karinganj in Assam. There were 80,000 Yaba tablets in eight packets. The police said that the seized drugs are worth around 24 crore rupees. A case has been registered under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. The arrested persons were produced before the District CJM Court.
The initial conclusion of the police is that the gang is behind the big money laundering. The police said that they would conduct an extensive investigation to find the masterminds of drug trafficking. This odorless drug is in high demand. Yaba is made by combining methamphetamine and caffeine. Police suspect that the Yaba pills were brought from Mizoram with the aim of smuggling them to Bangladesh via Tripura.
