While announcing the Indian team for the first match of the Test series against Bangladesh, the BCCI did not announce the vice-captain. Jasprit Bumrah was India’s vice-captain in the previous Test series against England. It is noteworthy that Bumrah was included in the series against Bangladesh but was not announced as the vice-captain.
It is also noteworthy that KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who were previously considered for the post of Test captain along with Jasprit Bumrah, have returned to the team, but both have not been made vice-captains. The BCCI has already stated that Bumrah is the player led by the team. It is not clear who will have to lead the team in the absence of Rohit on the ground in the series against Bangladesh.
BCCI has not clarified why the vice-captain was not announced. It is expected that this will be raised when coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma hold a press conference before the Test series against Bangladesh.
