Kozhikode: Contaminated rice infested with maggots and weevils was distributed at the NGO Quarters ration shop. The rice, which was supplied last month from the Civil Supplies Corporation warehouse in Vellayil, was found to be of poor quality and unfit for consumption.
Consumers who received the ration complained about the presence of insects in the rice, raising concerns about food safety and hygiene. Authorities are expected to take further action regarding the issue.
Hundreds of sacks of infested rice are stocked at the NGO Quarters ration shop, and the infestation is rapidly spreading to other bags. Consumers have expressed their frustration, stating that the rice is unfit even for poultry, as chickens refuse to eat it.
Following complaints, the Rationing Inspector has intervened and assured that the contaminated rice will be replaced. Authorities are expected to take further action to prevent such incidents in the future.
