Rahul Gandhi may not contest in Wayanad

The wish of Congress leaders in Kerala that Rahul Gandhi should contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat has been rejected. It is reported that Rahul Gandhi has decided to leave the sitting seat of Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi is considered from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress national leadership had asked Rahul Gandhi to take a decision on where to contest.

Discussions have also started within the Congress about who will replace Rahul if he does not contest. In the first two elections after the formation of the constituency, Congress leader M.I. Shahnawas represented the constituency. In 2019, T. Siddique was initially decided as the candidate, but when Rahul Gandhi decided to contest, Siddique withdrew.

All the Congress leaders in Kerala are demanding that Rahul Gandhi himself contest from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. The Congress believes that Rahul’s candidature will help to repeat the success of the last Lok Sabha elections.

It is reported that instead of competing with the candidate of the party which is part of the India front, Rahul Gandhi is giving priority to face the BJP directly. There were reports that some seats in Karnataka and Telangana were under consideration. It is after this that information is coming out that he may contest from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. With this, the possibility of Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad has decreased. The final decision will be with Rahul Gandhi.
