Kerala Governor-Designate Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to Arrive in Thiruvananthapuram Tomorrow

Kerala Governor-designate Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow. He will arrive on a Hyderabad-Thiruvananthapuram flight. He will be received at the airport by government and Raj Bhavan representatives.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 10:30 am on January 2. High Court Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar will administer the oath to the new governor at the Raj Bhavan Auditorium. The Public Administration Department has invited 400 people including the Chief Minister, ministers, public representatives and High Court judges to the ceremony.Arlekar will be the 23rd Governor of Kerala.

An RSS leader, Arlekar is a person who maintains close ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP central leadership. His long-standing political activity was in Goa. He has been active in the BJP since 1989. He has served as the General Secretary of the BJP in Goa, BJP South Goa President, Goa Industrial Development Corporation Chairman, and Goa SC and Other Backward Class Financial Development Corporation Chairman.

Arlekar was considered for the post of Goa Chief Minister by Manohar Parrikar in 2014 when he was the Union Defence Minister, but Laxmikant Parsekar was appointed as the Chief Minister at the last stage. Later, in the 2015 Goa cabinet reshuffle, Arlekar took charge as the Minister of Forests and Environment.
