The charge sheet in the Kottayam nursing college ragging case will be submitted today by noon. The police completed the charge sheet within 45 days. It includes statements from around 40 witnesses and 32 documents.
The mobile phone used to record the video has been considered a key piece of evidence. The accused in the case are Samuel from Muthilave, Kottayam; Jeeva from Tarapayal, Wayanad; Rijul Jith from Manjeri, Malappuram; Rahul Raj from Wandoor, Malappuram; and Vivek from Koruthode, Kottayam. The main point highlighted in the charge sheet is that the accused inflicted brutal torture on the junior students, equivalent to attempted murder.
All six victims are listed as witnesses in the case.
The accused had filed for regular and anticipatory bail, but the court denied their requests. They are currently in judicial custody. With the submission of the charge sheet, the case will proceed to trial.
The Kottayam government nursing college ragging case shocked the collective conscience of Kerala. The victims were subjected to extreme physical abuse, including being stabbed with a compass across their bodies and having a dumbbell pressed against their private parts.
Terrifying visuals captured on video show senior students tying first-year students to a bed and torturing them. The footage also reveals the accused stabbing the victims’ bodies with a compass and pouring body lotion on the wounds to intensify the pain. These recordings are considered crucial evidence in the case.
