Alappuzha: The Kudumbashree National Saras Mela, an exhibition and sales food fair, will commence today. The inauguration will take place at the Chengannur Municipality Stadium. At 5 PM, the event will be inaugurated by Local Self-Government Minister M. B. Rajesh. Ministers Saji Cherian and P. Prasad will also attend the program. Film star Mohanlal will grace the occasion as the distinguished guest.
As part of the Chengannur Peruma celebrations, the first-ever Chengannur Excellence Award will be presented to actor Mohanlal. Following this, a performance by Stephen Devassy will be held. The fair will feature 250 stalls, including contributions from 23 states, along with 100 stalls organized by the coordinating committee and 35 food outlets. The mela will conclude on the 31st.
Over the following days, various cultural programs led by film stars, playback singers, mega shows, seminars, cultural performances by Kudumbashree workers, a flower show, pet show, robotic show, and a book fair will take place daily from 10 AM to 10 PM. Chengannur will host the 11th edition of the Kudumbashree National Saras Mela, organized under the leadership of the Local Self-Government Department, aimed at promoting rural women entrepreneurs and giving greater visibility to traditional rural products. Admission to the Saras Mela is free.
