Kuwait Fire; NBTC announces Rs 8 lakh financial assistance to families of deceased, jobs for dependents

Kuwait City: NBTC announced financial assistance to the families of those who died in the fire in Kuwait and jobs for their dependents. The company has announced a financial assistance of eight lakh rupees to the families of employees including Malayalis. The company also announced that it will provide jobs and other benefits to the dependents of those who died in the accident. The officials also informed that the workers’ insurance protection amount and other benefits will be made available immediately.

NBTC informed that they are completing procedures with the government and the embassy to bring the bodies of the deceased back home. The authorities are making efforts to bring the dead bodies home today.

So far, 19 Malayalis have been identified as victims of the disaster at the labor camp in Kuwait. More than fifty people were injured and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The Ministry of External Affairs had informed that efforts have been started to bring the dead bodies home. The state government had announced an emergency financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. It has been decided to give one lakh rupees as financial assistance to the families of the injured.

The government had also announced that Health Minister Veena George will leave for Kuwait to assess the situation in the wake of the Kuwait tragedy. The decision of the state government to send the health minister is to speed up matters such as coordinating the rescue operation and bringing the dead bodies home and to do the necessary things in consultation with the Union Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and embassy officials who have arrived in Kuwait.
