Malayalam’s beloved soulful singer P. Jayachandran has passed away. He was undergoing treatment for cancer at Thrissur Amala Hospital, where he breathed his last. Jayachandran was a recipient of several National and State Awards for Best Singer. He lent his voice to numerous songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.
Born in 1944 at Ravipuram in Ernakulam to Thrippunithura Ravi Varma Kochaniyan Thampuran and Subhadrakunjamma, he was raised and educated in Irinjalakuda. His musical journey gained recognition in 1958 when he won a prize at the State School Youth Festival alongside K. J. Yesudas. From the iconic “Manjalayil Mungithorthi” to “Prayam Nammil Moham Nalki,” Jayachandran gifted us hundreds of evergreen hits.
