Kochi: The death of ADM Naveen Babu occurred following corruption allegations raised by P.P. Divya, the former President of the Kannur District Panchayat. In connection with the incident, Naveen Babu’s wife, K. Manjusha, had filed a petition seeking a CBI investigation. The High Court will consider this petition today.
The Special Investigation Team will submit the progress report and case diary to the court today, as per the High Court’s directions. The High Court will evaluate the progress of the investigation and examine the case diary before hearing detailed arguments on the demand for a CBI inquiry.
The single bench led by Justice Kauser Edappagath will hear the plea. During the previous hearing, the High Court had made it clear to the family’s lawyer that sufficient evidence must be provided to prove that the investigation was biased. The court emphasized that it requires clear evidence to conclude that the investigation is partial.
The CBI informed the High Court that it is willing to take over the investigation if the court directs. However, the court clarified that the matter at hand is not about the CBI’s readiness to take up the case but whether a CBI investigation is necessary.
