The devastating Wayanad landslide that wiped out an entire region remains etched in the memory of the people, who are still grappling with its aftermath. Today marks a crucial day concerning this tragedy, as the High Court will once again consider the suo motu case related to the disaster.
The court had earlier directed the state government to disclose the available balance in the State Disaster Relief Fund. The state government is expected to respond to this directive today. The government had previously requested a special package of approximately ₹2,300 crore for the rehabilitation of Wayanad.
However, the central government had maintained that funds for immediate rehabilitation were available in the State Disaster Relief Fund. In this context, the Division Bench had asked the state government to clarify the fund’s current balance and the amount that could be utilized for the rehabilitation efforts.
