Railway Privatization Not on Government’s Agenda, Opposition Spreading False Propaganda: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified in the Lok Sabha that railway privatization is not part of the government’s agenda and accused the opposition of spreading false propaganda. He urged against circulating such lies.

Vaishnaw reiterated the government’s stance against privatization during the presentation of the Railway Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. Despite protests, the Lok Sabha passed the Railway (Amendment) Bill during the Parliament’s winter session.

The amendment aims to ensure the legal authority of the Railway Board and grant more autonomy to railway zones. The new bill seeks to repeal the 1905 Indian Railway Board Act and merge it with the 1989 Indian Railway Act. Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that with this change, there will be no need to refer to two separate laws for railway matters.
