No Neglect of Kerala in Budget: Suresh Gopi Clarifies

What was given to Kerala in the Union Budget, which came with big schemes and important announcements, the state hoped that Kerala’s long-term need for AIIMS would be considered this time. However, that did not happen. Union minister and actor Suresh Gopi is coming with a reply to those who shouted that Kerala got nothing and the third Modi government did not give anything.

He is pointing out that Kerala has not been neglected in the first budget of the third Modi government. That is, the first full budget of the third Modi government is pointing towards huge job opportunities. That is, 2 lakh crore rupees have been mentioned in the budget to create employment opportunities for young men and women. The action is aimed at about 4.1 lakh young people.

Scheme A involves direct benefit transfer of one month’s salary. The benefit is available to those who register with Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) for the first time. One month’s salary (up to a maximum of Rs. 15,000) will be paid in 3 installments.

Scheme B is job creation in manufacturing incentives provided directly to employees and employers as per EPFO contribution during the first 4 years of employment.

Scheme C provides support to employers. It provides reimbursement of the EPFO contribution made by the employer for each employee who is overdrawn. In this way you can get reimbursement up to Rs.3,000 per month for 2 years.

The government also announced a new scheme to ensure skill development for 20 lakh youth over the next five years. The minister said that the model skill loan scheme will be revised to facilitate loans up to Rs 7.5 lakh. 1,000 ITIs will be upgraded on hub and spoke model as part of upskilling activities.

The government will provide financial assistance for loans up to Rs 10 lakh for higher education in domestic institutions. Sitharaman also said that 20 lakh youth will be trained in five years under the new centrally-led scheme for skilling in collaboration with states and industries.

The budget will determine the direction of government action for the next five years. Before the budget, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded that the foundation to complete the goal of making India a developed country by 2047 will be strengthened with the budget. Now another one. It is clear from Suresh Gopi that the state government has not provided enough land for AIIMS. 150 acres of land has been given. Suresh Gopi stated that it will not be enough.

At the same time, the majority thought that the announcement of granting AIIMS to Kerala, which is trembling with rare diseases, will be made this time. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had also said that AIIMS should be allowed and Kerala has all the necessary qualifications. But that didn’t happen either. Opposition MPs from Kerala say that there are no announcements and even the name of Kerala is not mentioned in the budget.

AIIMS, which was promised to Kerala in 2014, was later forgotten by the Centre. After this five AIIMS became reality. As the demand for AIIMS increased in Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Ernakulam and Palakkad, the central government postponed the decision by suggesting a consensus. In April 2022, the Union Health Ministry had recommended the Finance Ministry to grant AIIMS to Kerala, but no further action was taken.
