Opportunity Still Exists to Revoke Nimisha Priya’s Death Sentence in Yemen, Says Action Committee

The Save Nimisha Priya Action Committee has stated that there is still an opportunity to prevent Nimisha Priya’s execution, which is scheduled to be carried out in Yemen within a month. The statement came after Yemen issued an order to implement the death penalty within 30 days, according to Deepa Joseph, Chairperson of the Save Nimisha Priya Action Committee.

Samuel Jerome, who is coordinating the efforts to secure her release, explained that the negotiations stalled due to a lack of funds. “If the victim’s family had received the blood money and informed the court of their pardon, the death sentence would have been revoked,” he said. In the first phase, $19,871 was raised out of the required $20,000 through collective efforts and handed over in July 2024.

However, no significant progress was made in raising the second installment. Efforts came to a halt after the council members overseeing the funds demanded more clarity regarding their usage, Jerome added.
