Palakkad Accident; Lorry Driver Confesses Negligence, Faces Homicide Charges

In the tragic accident where a cement lorry lost control and overturned, killing four schoolgirls, the driver of an oncoming lorry has been charged with intentional homicide. The accused, Prajeesh from Vazhikkadavu, admitted to police that his mistake caused the accident. He stated that he failed to notice a bike crossing his path, which led to his negligence and the resulting fatal crash.

The incident occurred on the Palakkad-Kozhikode National Highway near Karimp Panayampadam. The victims were 13-year-old schoolgirls from Karimp Government Higher Secondary School, all of whom were in the 8th grade: Ridh (daughter of Rafique from Karimp Cherooli Pettathodivittil), Irfa Sherin (daughter of Abdulsalam from Pallipuram), Nitha Fathima (daughter of Saleem from Kavulengal), and Ayesha (daughter of Sharafudheen from Athikkal).

The lorry driver, Varghese (51), and cleaner Mahendra Prasad (28), both from Kasaragod, sustained injuries and are currently under police supervision in a private hospital in Mannarkkad.
