Kochi: The Producers Association has come forward against the press conference held by Jayan Cherthala, an office bearer of the film actors’ organization AMMA. The Producers Association has stated that if Jayan Cherthala does not offer an unconditional apology, they will proceed with a defamation case against him. Earlier, Jayan Cherthala had made remarks against the Producers Association and its office bearer, producer Suresh Kumar, regarding a dispute in the film industry.
The press conference in question took place on February 14, where Jayan Cherthala spoke out against the Producers Association. The association has now sent a legal notice to Jayan Cherthala. The legal notice alleges that during a financial crisis faced by the Producers Association, they had requested financial assistance from AMMA, the actors’ organization, and this is the basis of the controversy.
Jayan Cherthala had claimed that through various shows, AMMA had provided the Producers Association with around one crore rupees. He also stated that it was unfair for the producers to accuse AMMA members of charging exorbitant fees when the actors had supported the producers on several occasions.
However, the Producers Association clarified in their legal notice that the shows conducted by AMMA and the producers were based on clear contractual agreements. They asserted that the revenue-sharing agreement was part of the contract and not a charitable gesture from AMMA. The association also refuted Jayan Cherthala’s statement that Mohanlal had personally borne the cost of a ticket to travel to the Gulf for such a show, calling it incorrect.
The controversy continues to stir tensions in the Malayalam film industry, with both sides standing firm on their respective claims.
