A red alert has been issued for the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts due to the possibility of strong waves and a rogue sea phenomenon. The National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned that high waves, ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 meters, are expected along the Kerala coast from 2:30 PM today until 11:30 PM on Wednesday.
Similar warnings have been issued for the coasts of Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, as well as the coasts of Lakshadweep, Mahe, and Karnataka. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to stay alert due to the possibility of sea intrusion.
1. In areas at risk of sea incursion, residents should relocate based on the instructions of the authorities.
2. Small boats and fishing vessels should not be deployed during this period.
3. Both launching and retrieving fishing vessels from the sea during the rogue wave and high tide phase are equally dangerous, and should be avoided.
4. All beach-centered activities, including tourism, should be completely avoided until INCOIS withdraws the warning.
5. Fishing vessels, including boats and canoes, should be securely tied up in harbors to avoid collisions. Ensure the safety of fishing equipment as well.
6. Avoid trips to the beach and any recreational activities in the sea altogether.
