The protest by sanitation workers in Thiruvananthapuram has entered its 34th day, with workers voicing strong criticism against government ministers and Mayor Arya Rajendran. Protesters claim that promises made on the 14th day of discussions remain unfulfilled.
Notably, the protesting sanitation workers are active members of the CPM. They allege that officials are assigning their duties to members of the Haritha Karma Sena, a move they say is corrupt and undermines their work. The workers demand their roles back, warning that the corporation could face further issues if their grievances are not addressed. A majority of the protesters are above 50 years old.
