Thiruvananthapuram: Greeshma, the convict in the Sharon murder case, has approached the High Court seeking to overturn her death sentence. The High Court is set to consider her appeal today. The petition challenges the verdict issued by the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court, which sentenced her to death. Greeshma is currently lodged in Attakulangara Jail, Thiruvananthapuram.
The Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court, while delivering the verdict, observed that Greeshma had no idea the evidence against her would be so conclusive until she was caught. The court described the murder as a meticulously planned crime without any provocation. Sharon trusted Greeshma even on his deathbed, but she betrayed his trust. Sharon died after 11 days of suffering, unable to consume even a drop of water, as his internal organs failed due to poisoning. The court ruled that Greeshma’s young age did not warrant any leniency and sentenced her to death.
Greeshma was unable to substantiate her claims that she committed the crime under pressure or that Sharon had assaulted and threatened her. The court observed that she lured Sharon into her home with affectionate words laced with hidden poison. She deliberately misled the investigation by providing false information and concealing facts. The court also noted that her attempted suicide was part of an effort to evade punishment.
The case relied on 48 pieces of circumstantial evidence, including WhatsApp chats. The court also sentenced Greeshma’s uncle, Nirmal Kumaran Nair, to three years in prison for attempting to destroy evidence. Since the sentence was limited to three years, he was granted bail.
