Thiruvananthapuram: The implementation of the new liquor policy in the state will be delayed as the Cabinet meeting held today did not approve it. Concerns were raised regarding the distance criteria for toddy shops and the provision of liquor on tourism destination dry days. The Cabinet decided to postpone the policy for further discussions.
The meeting also pointed out a lack of clarity in the approval of new toddy shops under the revised policy. A key aspect of the new policy is the relaxation of dry day restrictions on the first day of the month for tourism centers and wedding parties. The liquor policy had been previously postponed due to allegations related to bar bribery. The Excise Minister, who was not in the capital, participated in the Cabinet meeting online.
