Strict Action Should Be Taken Against Traffic Law Violators; Human Rights Commission

Kozhikode: The recent tragic incident in Kozhikode Beach Road, where a videographer was fatally hit by a car while filming reels, has prompted the Human Rights Commission to call for strict action against traffic law violators who endanger their lives and others.

Judicial Member K. Baijunath of the Human Rights Commission directed the State Police Chief to take necessary measures and submit a report within four weeks. The Commission also instructed the Kozhikode Police Commissioner to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident and submit findings within the same timeframe. The case will be reviewed during a sitting at the Kozhikode Government Guest House on January 30 at 10:30 AM.

The directive highlighted that such reckless activities not only pose a threat to participants but also endanger other motorists and pedestrians. The Commission noted an alarming rise in the trend of shooting risky reels to gain social media attention, often by flouting traffic laws and driving dangerously. It emphasized that public roads are increasingly being misused as grounds for such activities and urged stringent action against those who conduct or facilitate street racing and similar stunts. The intervention came in response to a complaint filed by Advocate V. Devadas, based on media reports.
