Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated summer rains in the state over the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts due to the possibility of heavy rainfall.
On April 3, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts are under a yellow alert, while on April 4, the warning extends to Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.
The forecast indicates the likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall, with expected precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Additionally, the state may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h. The IMD has advised people to remain cautious.
Meanwhile, the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast is safe for fishing activities, as no weather disruptions have been predicted in these areas. In the past 24 hours, Kerala recorded a high ultraviolet (UV) index, with Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts reaching Orange Alert levels. The UV index between 8 and 10 is considered high, prompting authorities to issue a warning.
The IMD has urged residents to take precautions against prolonged exposure to UV rays, which can lead to heatstroke, skin diseases, eye problems, and other health issues. The most intense UV radiation is recorded between 10 AM and 3 PM, and people are advised to minimize direct sun exposure during these hours.
