Thiruvananthapuram: Temperatures will increase in the state, yellow alert in 10 districts. Kottayam officially recorded the highest temperature in the country for the second day in a row (38.5 °c, 4°c above normal). It is also the highest temperature recorded in the state during the season. The same temperature was recorded at Kannur Airport on February 16. The temperature rose to 38.3 degrees Celsius at Kannur Airport yesterday. Alappuzha (37.6°c, 4.4°c higher) recorded three degrees Celsius above normal for the seventh consecutive day.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts are likely to see rise in temperature. Yellow alert has been declared in these districts. Temperatures may rise by two to four degrees Celsius above current levels. The disaster management authority has warned that people should avoid direct exposure to sunlight while going out from 11 am to 3 pm.
The concern is that the temperature does not drop much at night. The temperature remains high between 27-30 degree Celsius in many places at night. It is best to drink plenty of fresh water and avoid caffeinated beverages as the chances of dehydration are high.
