The governor blocked three bills proposed by the Pinarayi administration.

Another blow to the Pinarayi government. 3 Bills were blocked by Governor Arif Muhammad Khan and sent for President’s consideration.

1. KERALA UNIVERSITY RULES [Amendment No.2] [Removing Governor from Chancellor of Universities] Bill, 2022.

2. University Act Amendment Bill, 2022 [Extension of Search Committee for Appointment of Vice-Chancellor].

3. The University Act Amendment Bill, 2021 [Appellate Tribunal Issue and other amendments relating to Technical University and others]

With this, a total of 7 Bills were sent for President’s assent. Out of which only one Bill got assent i.e. Kerala Lokayukta Amendment Bill, 2022. Decision on other Bills is awaited.

The question also arises as to how the law of changing the head of the university from the governor can be implemented only in Kerala. These are bills that are unlikely to pass. Moreover, the governor is also giving a heavy blow to the universities becoming the target of the CPM
