Governor Arif Muhammad Khan, who is also the chancellor, sacked both the VCs, citing that the appointment was against the UGC rules. The Governor’s action followed the Supreme Court’s order upholding the dismissal of Technical University VC Dr. Rajashree. Then Dr. MV Narayanan was approaching the High Court.

The Chief Secretary was included in the search committee of Calicut University to select the VC. Which led to Jayaraj’s ouster. But during the argument, Dr. Calicut held the temporary charge of VC and was a person of academic excellence. Jayaraj’s lawyer pointed out. It was also argued that the Chief Secretary was the Chancellor’s nominee.
