Those who throw away plastic beware, the registration of the vehicle will be cancelled

Thiruvananthapuram: A decision was taken in a special meeting called by the Chief Minister to immediately clean the waste carrier Amayizahanchan canal. A permanent committee will be formed under the leadership of the Sub-Collector for cleaning. Representatives of Municipalities, Railways and Irrigation Departments will be members of the committee. It has been decided that the part owned by the Railways will be cleaned by the Railways, the Lands Department under the Irrigation Department and the Municipalities will clean the lands under the Municipal Corporation.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed that strict action should be taken against those using banned plastic carry bags and products. There is also a proposal to cancel the registration of vehicles that dump garbage in water bodies and public roads.

The provisions of the Disaster Management Act will be used to supervise and facilitate the operations to tackle the garbage problem in the city. Under the supervision of the District Collector, the Sub-Collector will be assigned as a special officer to coordinate the activities. He also said that the coordination of all three departments namely Major Irrigation, Corporation and Railways will be ensured.

The Chief Minister also appreciated those who bravely participated in the turtle rescue mission, especially the scuba team. The Chief Minister said that garbage disposal is important to prevent communicable diseases. The Chief Minister also directed KSRTC to set up an effluent treatment plant and integrated waste management system to avoid discharge of waste water and other solid waste from the service station at KSRTC Thampanur Bus Depot into Amaizhanchan creek.

A public program will be planned for the conservation, management and supervision of water bodies. For this purpose, various programs like formation of watershed committees, maintenance of watersheds under the supervision of children etc. will be planned. The chief minister also told the officials that the water flow should be facilitated so that the water flows into the sea.

The Irrigation Department will carry out maintenance of the fencing on both sides of the canal. The work on the new fencing to be installed at 2000 meters will start soon. The Corporation will set up two trash booms near the bridge in the middle of Rajaji Nagar and at the end of the Nagar. He said that the work will be started soon at the site identified for the Shastriya solid waste project in Rajajinagar area.
