Kochi: The Supreme Court has stayed the death sentence of Amirul Islam, accused in the Perumbavoor law student’s murder case. The Supreme Court directed to submit a psychiatric report of the accused’s prison behavior and pointed out that if there are reasons for mitigating the sentence, the same should be studied and submitted.
The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court sentenced the accused to death by considering it to be a rare and brutal murder. A law student was brutally murdered on April 28, 2016. The post-mortem report revealed that the woman who was found dead at home was a victim of sexual assault and had 38 injuries on her body. Amirul Islam, a native of Assam, was arrested by the police on June 16.
