Training for Tipper drivers, action taken by the transport department

Thiruvananthapuram: With the regularity of tipper lorry accidents, the transport department said that human lives can no longer be lost in the middle of the road. The department is preparing to provide driving training to avoid such accidents. Special consideration is given to tipper drivers. A Torus lorry claimed the life of a man who went for a walk yesterday morning in Kochi.

After the wooden lorry broke the cable in Karunagappally, the lorry moved forward pulling the housewives who were stuck in the same cable and they were seriously injured. It has been decided to prepare a list of tipper and lorry drivers registered under each RT office and train them.

Officials of the Transport Department informed that a panel of trainers consisting of experts from Sreechithira Tirunal Engineering College and KSRTC Training Center and the plan will be formed soon. Life and safety of the public can only be ensured if it is realized that it is not possible to go on the road with an overload and excessive speed is not possible.

It is the responsibility of the Geology Department to ensure that rock from quarries is loaded in tippers not exceeding the legal weight. The Motor Vehicle Department complains that they do not do that. Royalty is collected from the quarry to the government on the basis of load. It is alleged that Geology department is also conniving in evasion of royalty by uploading excessive load.
