Vellappally Natesan stated that caste discrimination at Koodalmanikyam Temple is highly condemnable. He demanded action against those responsible in the temple and urged the government to remove the priests who uphold such regressive thoughts. He added that it is unacceptable to exclude someone based on caste.
The recruitment is carried out by a government-appointed recruitment board. The Kazhakam personnel were temporarily shifted from the office. The temple authorities stated that the change was made to resolve the current issue. It was also mentioned that after the festival, the Kazhakam personnel would be reinstated.
Vellappally further remarked that those trying to disrupt Hindu unity are responsible for this issue. He asserted that such discriminatory practices should not only be eradicated from temples but from society as a whole. He warned that priests should not consider themselves as supreme authorities in all matters.
Vellappally Natesan stated that the CPI(M)’s Nava Keralam policy document is good and would be beneficial if implemented properly. He also remarked that Padmakumar should not have made such statements and that the party had given him everything.
One should remember both their abilities and shortcomings. Positions and honors should not be claimed based on lineage alone. Veena George is popular and has proven herself as a successful Health Minister. If she is deserving, one should recognize their own limitations,” Vellappally said.
He further added, “Being in a position for 52 years doesn’t mean everything. Wasn’t he made a minister? Wasn’t he given the Devaswom Minister post? The party has not forgotten anything, nor have the people. Padmakumar should not be ungrateful,” Vellappally reminded
