The body of late CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury will be brought home in Delhi today. A public visit will be held at the residence in Vasant Kunj from 6 o’clock. Currently, the body is kept in AIIMS hospital mortuary.
A public viewing will be held at AKG Bhavan, the CPM Central Committee office, tomorrow from 11 am to 3 pm. Then the body will be taken to AIIMS as a mourning procession. According to Yechury’s wish, the dead body will be handed over to AIIMS for study and research purposes.
At the same time, it was decided to replace Yechury with one of the current PB as General Secretary. The leaders informed that the discussion will start after a week. Vrinda Karat is the most senior member of the leaders currently working at the central level.
Vrinda Karat should resign from the Central Committee in the next session if the age limit is met. The names of MA Baby and A Vijayaraghavan may also be discussed. The leaders indicated that for the time being, the charge would be given to someone on a temporary basis and the party congress would appoint a new general secretary.
