Manav (17), a native of North Paravur, drowned near the Ilanthikkara-Kozhithuruth sand bund in Puthenvelikkara. The incident occurred yesterday when Manav visited the spot with seven friends.
When Manav began to drown after entering the river, a friend tried to hold onto him, causing both to submerge. Another friend immediately tried to rescue them, but Manav slipped further into the water. Despite a search led by local residents, he could not be found. The fire force’s scuba team eventually located Manav and took him to a private hospital, but he could not be saved.
Manav, who had been selected for the Under-19 Kerala cricket team, was a Plus Two (Biology) student at Paravur Government Higher Secondary School.
