Elephant attack; People’s hartal in Athirappilly tomorrow

A people’s hartal has been called in Athirappilly tomorrow following the death of three people in wild elephant attacks within 24 hours. All political parties have joined together to organize the hartal, which will be observed from 6 AM to 6 PM.

This morning, Ambika and Satheesh, natives of Vazhachal, were found dead after a wild elephant attack. The two were part of a four-member group that had gone into the forest yesterday to collect forest produce.

When they encountered the elephant, the group scattered and ran. Two of them sustained injuries while fleeing. Locals said they initially believed Ambika and Satheesh had escaped. However, when they failed to return by morning, a search was conducted, and both were found dead.

Just the previous day, Sebastian, a tribal man from Adichilthotty, was killed in a similar elephant attack. He was on his way to collect honey from a nearby forest when he was attacked near the forest boundary.
