Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has arrived in Kochi for a visit to Munambam. At 4 PM, he will have a meeting at the Bishop House with the Archbishop of the Varapuzha Archdiocese, Dr. Joseph Kallathiparambil.
At 5 PM, after meeting with the leaders of the protest committee, he will address the gathering. Union Minister of State George Kurien and BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar will also accompany Kiren Rijiju.
Initially, Kiren Rijiju had planned to visit Munambam on the 9th of this month, following the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill, but the visit was later postponed to the 15th. Earlier, when the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed, large celebrations were held in Munambam. There were cheers for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government at that time.
Later, Rajeev Chandrasekhar visited Munambam and met with the protesters. Around fifty Munambam residents joined the BJP in his presence. The BJP is preparing to use the Waqf Bill amendment as a political tool in Kerala. The party’s campaign will focus on the stance taken by Left and UDF MPs in Parliament.
The BJP will also highlight the position of MPs who did not accept the KBC’s demand to support the bill. When the bill was introduced, Kiren Rijiju had made it clear that the Munambam issue would be resolved.
