Every item against Islam to be removed from education: Taliban

The Taliban is planning to free the Afghan education system of “every item against Islam” stoking fears that the insurgent group might once again impose an extremist rule as opposed to claims of forming a moderate and inclusive government. Interim higher education minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani criticised the present education system saying that it failed to adhere to Islamic principles.

He said, “Every item against Islam in the educational system will be removed,” as quoted by the Independent. Even though the insurgent group promised a moderate rule this time, on Sunday, Afghan media reported that local TV channels and radio stations in Kandahar have been ordered to not air music and female voices. Music was banned in the Taliban regime because it was anti-Islamic. On Sunday, a local singer from Andrab in Afghanistan was shot dead by a rebel group. As well as curtailing women’s rights to work and education, it resorts to barbaric measures in the name of justice. Along with this, women’s rights to work and education were also curtailed. Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, people are desperately trying to flee the rule of the extremist Islamist group.
