Reports of the death of world-renowned tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain have been denied by his family, despite earlier confirmations by central government sources and news agencies that led to widespread media coverage.
The denial came from Zakir Hussain’s son-in-law, Aamir Olya, who stated on social media that the legendary musician is alive and urged people not to spread misinformation. “My uncle is still alive. Please do not spread any false news. I request everyone to pray for his recovery,” Olya tweeted.
Adding to this, Hussain’s sister, Khurshid Olya, confirmed the severity of his condition but emphasized that he is still fighting. “He is still breathing. I request you all to pray for him. I am in touch with the family. His condition is critical but he is alive,” she said.
Ustad Zakir Hussain, a globally celebrated artist, has been a towering figure in Indian classical music for over five decades. Known for putting India on the global music map, he has been honored with prestigious awards such as the Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan for his immense contributions to music.
