Kochi: There has been a slight improvement in Uma Thomas’s health, but she needs to continue on a ventilator, according to a medical bulletin. The medical board clarified that there is concern as there is fluid buildup outside the lungs and that monitoring needs to continue. The new medical bulletin was issued after a joint medical board meeting held to assess the health condition of Uma Thomas MLA.
Although Uma Thomas, who remains on a ventilator in the intensive care unit, has shown slight improvement in her health, the medical bulletin states that she has developed a condition called reactive pleural effusion, which is the accumulation of fluid outside the lungs due to bruising and injury to the lungs. Although there is no need to be extremely concerned about this, proper monitoring and treatment may be required, said Dr. Krishnanunni Polakulam, Medical Director of Rinai Medicity.
Efforts are underway to remove him from the ventilator. A team of experts from the cardiovascular, neurology and pulmonology departments led by government-appointed Dr. Jayakumar visited the patient at Rinai Medicity today and met with the treatment team before returning. The team expressed satisfaction with the treatment being provided and the rapid progress made by the patient, said Krishnanunni Polakulam.
