Former Kerala PWD Minister Ebrahim Kunju arrested by Vigilance Team

Former Kerala Public Works Department Minister Ebrahim Kunju arrested by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau from the hospital where he was admitted. It is informed that the former minister has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital. The team has arrived at the residence of former Public Works Department (PWD) minister V K Ebrahim Kunju at Aluva, in Kerala, on Wednesday morning in a possible move to take him into custody. The agency is probing the former minister’s alleged involvement in the corruption case regarding the Palarivattom flyover construction. The former minister was not present at the home. His family informed that Kunju is under treatment at a hospital and only his wife was present at the house. According to sources, the team arrived at the house with the intention of arresting Kunju. As the local body elections are to be held in the month of December, the move assumes political significance. The arrest of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader could give leverage to the ruling LDF, which had been defensive over various issues over Life Mission scam, Bineesh Kodiyeri’s arrest and the allegations made against the chief minister’s office by the accused in the sensational Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case. The Vigilance had conducted a raid at Kunju’s house in the past and had interrogated him in connection with the case in September 2019. The Vigilance team now returned from former minister’s office after conducting an inspection of the house.
