KSU-SFI clash at Kerala University; Case registered against around 200 people

Following the Kerala University union elections, a case has been registered against SFI and KSU activists in connection with the clash that broke out. The Cantonment Police registered the case against around 200 identifiable individuals. Charges include unlawful assembly and obstruction of police duties.

The clash occurred during a celebratory march after the university union elections held the previous day. Seven KSU activists and five SFI activists were injured in the incident. As the police resorted to baton charge to control the situation, scuffles broke out between the activists and the police.

Pushing and shoving occurred between SFI activists and the police. Eventually, the violence spread outside the campus. Outside, both SFI and KSU activists pelted stones at each other. SFI activists allegedly jeered at KSU activists, with slogans suggesting they were seeking police protection — a claim made by KSU.

KSU alleged that some of its state leaders sustained head injuries after being hit by stones thrown by SFI members. On the other hand, SFI claimed that one of their activists, Dhanesh, suffered a head injury due to police baton charge. Notably, this was the first time in 13 years that KSU won the Vice Chairperson post in Kerala University. KSU alleged that it was during the victory celebrations, while they were shouting slogans, that SFI attacked them.
