Indian diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, accused in a financial fraud case, has been arrested in Belgium, reports say. India had requested the arrest of Mehul Choksi, who is in Belgium. The action follows this. Mehul Choksi is an accused in a bank fraud case worth Rs 13,500 crore.
There were earlier reports that Mehul Choksi and his wife were in Belgium. Based on this, India had asked Belgium to extradite Choksi. Mehul Choksi’s wife has Belgian citizenship.
Reports suggest that the arrested Choksi is currently in jail and will be brought to India. Meanwhile, there were reports that the documents Mehul Choksi provided to obtain citizenship in Belgium were also fake.
