In the Alappuzha hybrid cannabis case, the Excise Department stated that Sultan, who was arrested, is a link in an international drug mafia network. Investigations revealed that Sultan mostly brought cannabis into India from Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Sultan smuggled 6.5 kg of hybrid cannabis from Malaysia. However, only 3 kg was seized from Tasleema, and the police are investigating who received the remaining 3.5 kg. The Excise Department also mentioned that they are collecting details of Sultan’s foreign travels. It was found that after his trip to Malaysia, Sultan used a new passport and that the foreign trip was allegedly for purchasing goods for an electronics firm.
Tasleema Sultan was arrested in Alappuzha with hybrid cannabis worth ₹2 crore. She had reportedly confessed to supplying cannabis to film actors Sreenath Bhasi and Shine Tom Chacko. She also claimed to have used drugs multiple times with the actors. The Excise Department has obtained chat records between Tasleema and the actors.
Following Tasleema’s arrest, Excise Deputy Commissioner S. Vinod Kumar stated that it was one of the largest hybrid cannabis busts in recent times. The police also found that the young woman had connections with prominent figures in the film industry. She had been distributing the smuggled hybrid cannabis in Ernakulam and had set up a distribution network in Alappuzha, which ultimately led to her arrest by the Excise Department.
