Kochi: A grand reception was held in Kochi for George Jacob Koovakattu, who has been elevated as a Cardinal, a moment of pride for India. He was welcomed with floral bouquets at the Nedumbassery International Airport.
Speaking to the media, Cardinal Koovakattu expressed his gratitude for the love and prayers of the people. “I am proud to be an Indian and a Malayali. I will remain in the country for three weeks,” he added, thanking those who came to receive him.
A reception will be held at his home parish on the 24th. Cardinal George Jacob Koovakattu, a member of the Changanassery Archdiocese, is the first Indian priest to be directly elevated to the rank of Cardinal while serving as a clergyman.
He also revealed that he has been invited to the Prime Minister’s Christmas celebrations. Additionally, he mentioned the possibility of a visit by Pope Francis to India, though the exact date remains unconfirmed.
