If the vehicle is more than 15 years old, you will not be able to get fuel from the pumps, Delhi is planning to implement it soon

New Delhi: A special committee has been formed to take steps to reduce air pollution in Delhi. As per the decision of this committee, steps will be taken to ensure that end-of-life vehicles do not get fuel from pumps.

Authorities are likely to soon instruct petrol pumps in the national capital region not to supply fuel to end-of-life vehicles. This will be implemented as soon as the Centre approves it. The committee has prepared a comprehensive proposal, including a ban on commercial vehicles with engines below BS-6 entering Delhi.

The end-of-life is considered to be 10 years for diesel vehicles and 15 years for petrol vehicles. The special committee comprises officials from NITI Aayog, Ministry of Road Transport, Ministry of Petroleum, Automotive Research Association of India (AIRAI), International Council on Clean Transport and Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR.

Verification using number plate. The age of the vehicle is determined by scanning the number plates of the vehicles arriving at the pumps. Although there are no high-security number plates, automatic number plate readers (ANPRs) will be made available at all pumps to help determine the age of the vehicles. These are linked to the central government’s Vahan portal and if the number plate is scanned, a green or red mark will be given. Vehicles arriving with a red mark will not be able to get fuel from the pumps.

The ANPR inspection will be extended to Delhi first and then to the NCR region. Officials said that currently, 200 out of the 600 pumps in Delhi are equipped with ANPR system. The committee also plans to strictly implement the construction norms in neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
