On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, India created a mega record of administering over 2 crore novel coronavirus vaccine doses. Notably, this is the first time that 2 crore doses have been administered in a single day. According to data shared on the Co-WIN portal at 11:55pm, India had administered nearly 2.49 crore vaccine doses.

In a tweet, Union Health and Family Welfare minister Mansukh Mandaviya called Vaccine Seva (service) a gift to PM Modi on behalf of healthcare workers and the countrymen. “On Prime minister Narendra Modi’s birthday today, on the birthday, India has crossed the historical figure of 2 crore vaccines in a day, setting a new record. Well done India!” he tweeted. The health minister on Thursday had called for a major push to the Covid vaccination drive on the occasion of Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, saying that it would be the perfect gift for him. The daily vaccinations also crossed the one-crore mark for the fourth time in less than a month on Friday — the other days being September 6, August 31 and August 27. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had sought to make PM Modi’s birthday historic by vaccinating the maximum number of people. The BJP also aims to set a record of the maximum number of vaccine inoculations on the day. With this remarkable feat, India has administered over 79 crore doses till now.
