New Delhi: Posters branding Rahul Gandhi as a “terrorist sympathizer” have surfaced across Amethi, just ahead of his scheduled visit to the constituency. The provocative posters appeared shortly after the Congress party launched a social media campaign criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The controversy erupted when Congress’s official X (formerly Twitter) account posted a sarcastic message: “The Prime Minister is missing.” The post sparked backlash from various INDIA bloc allies. National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah defended the Prime Minister, stating, “Modi hasn’t gone anywhere; he’s right here in Delhi and actively engaged.” Trinamool Congress also distanced itself from the Congress post, saying such criticism is unwarranted at this sensitive juncture.
The Congress was forced to delete the post amid mounting pressure. Prominent BSP leader Mayawati also condemned the remarks, urging political parties to avoid “filthy politics” during a time when the nation should stand united.
Facing intense criticism, the Congress party found itself on the defensive. The controversial post was reportedly made by Supriya Shrinate, who handles Congress’s digital communications. However, she allegedly did not consult party leadership before publishing it. After BJP leaders raised concerns, Congress issued a stern warning to Supriya and promptly removed the post.
A formal directive was later issued by the party’s General Secretary, instructing all spokespersons to avoid making public statements without prior approval.
