Fire Breaks Out in Kolkata Hotel, 14 Dead

A devastating fire broke out at a hotel near Falpatti Machhua in Kolkata, claiming 14 lives and injuring several others. The fire started around 8:15 PM on Tuesday in the premises of Rituraj Hotel. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma informed the media that the fire is now under control and rescue operations are ongoing.

A special team has been formed to investigate the incident, the Commissioner said, adding that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Among the deceased, one person reportedly died after jumping from the hotel in an attempt to escape the blaze. Another individual who jumped is currently undergoing treatment for injuries. Several people who had rushed to the terrace to escape were rescued by firefighters using a hydraulic ladder, according to police sources.
