Mahakumbh Mela 2025: 400 Million Expected to Participate in World’s Largest Religious Gathering

The upcoming Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj is set to witness a staggering turnout of 400 million people, highlighting the rich cultural diversity of India. Organized jointly by the Uttar Pradesh government and the Union Ministries of Tourism and Culture, this grand spiritual event will run from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

Held every 12 years, the 45-day festival takes place at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, known as the Triveni Sangam. Millions of devotees take a holy dip here, symbolizing the purification of the soul.

To accommodate the massive gathering, the government is preparing extensive infrastructure, including three stages with a capacity of 4,000 each and a Ganga tent capable of hosting 10,000 people. Over 20 stages will host cultural performances by various artists throughout the event.

The Archaeological Survey of India, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, museums, and archives are collaborating on a digital exhibition showcasing the history and legacy of the Mahakumbh Mela through manuscripts and photographs. Additionally, cultural processions and performances will be organized under the joint aegis of the Ministry of Culture and the Uttar Pradesh government.
