Masala Bond Case; ED files appeal against Thomas Isaac in Hc

Kochi: The ED has filed an appeal in the High Court against the single bench order that Thomas Isaac should not be questioned at this stage in the Kifbi Masala bond case. It is demanded that the Division Bench consider the petition on Friday itself. The ED filed the appeal when the court was about to adjourn for summer vacation.

Yesterday, the High Court had clarified that it is inappropriate to ask a candidate contesting in the Lok Sabha elections to appear for questioning when the election is close. The ED alleged that the relaxation to Isaac was a wrongful act.

The court’s direction was in the petitions filed by former minister Thomas Isaac and KIFBI against the ED’s constant summons for questioning related to the masala bond. The court clarified that it has gone through the files submitted by the ED and is not disclosing the details at this stage. It has also been clarified that whether seeking an explanation should be called directly or in writing is sufficient. ED filed the appeal while the petitions were to be heard again on May 22.
