May everyone be blessed with happiness, prosperity and health, PM wishes on Shivratri

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes everyone a happy Shivaratri. This festival is dedicated to Lord Mahadev. May this auspicious day bring happiness, prosperity and good health to everyone. May the goal of a developed India be further strengthened, the Prime Minister tweeted. The Prime Minister also shared footage of him visiting Shiva temples.

Shivaratri is the Chaturdashi day of the Krishna Paksha of the Kumbha in the month of Magha. The day when Chaturdashi strikes midnight should be observed as a fast. If two nights coincide with Chaturdashi, the first one should be observed. This fast, which is important for ascetics and represents Shiva, is very excellent.

There are two legends associated with Shivaratri in the Puranas. Lord Mahadev drank the Halala poison that was released during the Palazhi churning to save the world. Everyone fasted and prayed without sleeping so that the Lord would not be affected by that poison. The night when Lord Shiva drank the poison is celebrated as Shivaratri. Devotees believe that it was the Lord himself who instructed them to fast on this day.
