The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is reportedly set to register a case against Veena Vijayan, daughter of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in connection with the Monthly Payment case. Reports suggest that the ED has requested related documents from the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO). The ED observes that the case falls under the scope of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED will proceed with registering a case, but further action will follow only after receiving the necessary documents.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court will today hear a petition filed by CMRL seeking to halt the SFIO investigation. The hearing on the petition is scheduled for 2:30 PM. Notices were earlier issued by the court to both the SFIO and the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs in response to the petition.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal is expected to appear on behalf of CMRL today. The petition was filed at a time when the trial in the case was about to begin. The plea urges the court to direct that the trial should not commence without the High Court’s permission and also asks the Centre to clarify whether the final investigation report has been submitted by the SFIO.
